Short-Term Insurance Seminar (Actuarial Society of South Africa) 🇿🇦

Akur8 is pleased to participate in the 2025 edition of the Short-Term Insurance Seminar, promoted by the Actuarial Society of South Africa. The event brings together actuaries, data scientists, and insurance experts to discuss emerging methodologies and technologies transforming the industry.

Akur8's Principal Actuarial Data Scientist, Edwin Graham, will be a featured speaker at the seminar. His session, titled “Automated Approaches for Insurance Pricing Models”, will explore a range of methods for automating the development of pricing models. The presentation will cover automation of traditional techniques like GLMs and table-based models, as well as comparisons with machine learning approaches such as Gradient Boosted Machines (GBMs).

Edwin will share about the strengths and limitations of each method, offering guidance on how to evaluate and select the most appropriate modeling approach for different insurance use cases.
